About Sounds Ensemble:

Sounds Ensemble is one of the youngest bands in Dublin. Young at heart more so than young of age, although some members would dispute the "age" comment.

We are about to celebrate our 21st birthday and our membership consists of mature adults, ranging in age from 28 to 85. We began in 2004 when our musical director, Terry Clancy, applied for seed money to South Dublin County Council to create such an ensemble, offering the opportunity to rekindle ones interest in music or start from the beginning and learn to read and play music within a band, hence "Sounds Ensemble".

We are now a fully-fledged Community Concert Band offering our services free to the community in the form of charity concerts and this has proved very successful over the years with the RNLI; The Irish Heart Foundation; The 3Ts ;Simon; Tallaght Cancer Support Group; Moldova Project; The Jack & Jill Foundation ,and many more, being the beneficiaries of those concerts.

If you wish to contact us about joining up and making music together, please get in touch with us and we would be delighted to advise you how to start. Or feel free to drop in and "Sound" us out any Wednesday evening 7.30pm to 9.15pm in Rua Red, South Dublin Arts Centre, Tallaght.

You don't have to be a soloist or a "great player" to join us, there is a place for everyone, whatever the standard. The focus is on enjoyment! Our repertoire offers challenges to all, be you a seasoned player or just a beginner.

The only requirements are Enthusiasm and Commitment!

About Terry Clancy:

Terry Clancy M.A., is Sounds Ensemble’s Conductor and Musical director.

Terry was a member of the Army School of Music for over three decades, working as a member of the Band of the Curragh Command and the Army No.1 Band before being appointed Senior Woodwind Instructor in the Army School of Music. Here he took on the role of developing young musicians for a professional career in the Army School of Music, Rathmines, Co Dublin

At one time, the Army Bands were the biggest employer of professional musicians in the country, having four military bands in Dublin, Cork, Curragh and Athlone, alongside the training school in Rathmines.

Taking early retirement Terry continued his teaching career in both Primary Schools (St. Mary's in Blessington, St. Brigids in Foxrock and St. Ultan’s in Cherry Orchard) and in Secondary schools (Templeogue and Castleknock Colleges), before deciding to devote his experiences to encouraging the “mature” generation to renew their interest in partaking in and enjoying music.

Terry continues to offer, and encourage, all budding musicians to blow the dust off their instruments and put a little swing back into their life. Playing a musical instrument in a band is something everyone can enjoy no matter what their abilities. He believes music should be “Fun” with a capital F. Join a band, better still, join our band and the fun will have already started!
